Mettel Ray over at Mettel Ray Movie Blog is hosting a blogathon that I’ve been excited to take part in!
I’m breaking this into two parts since I am away – Part 1
Here are the details from the source:
Thanks to a kind recommendation, I’m hosting my first ever Blogathon! The idea is simple but trust me when I say this, deciding on a list is far more difficult – are you ready for the challenge? Those who are brave enough to take on this task, check out My Movie Alphabet for inspiration, motivation and maybe some guidelines, post your alphabet on your blog and send the link to my e-mail: mettelray@msn.com. Before you know it, your alphabet will be featured on this page.
N – Nosferatu
Iconic horror film and a mark of excellence for silent cinema.
O – One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest
I actually think I prefer the book, but I love Jack Nicholson in this.
P – Pee Wee’s Big Adventure
Large Marge still scares the crap out of me.
Q – Queen Latifah
Yeah, I didn’t want to put Quentin Tarantino here…Queen Latifah is cool, right?
R – Roger Corman
The man could make a movie with literally no budget in a week’s time. I never said they were GOOD movies…
S – Stanley Kubrick
Hands down my favorite director.
T – The Thin Red Line
A beautiful film and I think my favorite from Terrence Malick.
U – Unforgiven
My dad always tried getting me to watch Westerns, but this film made me want to watch Westerns.
V – Vertigo
Sight and Sound can’t be wrong, right?
W – Wages of Fear
One of the most intense cinematic experiences I’ve ever had.
X – X2
Not a whole lot of ‘X’ things to choose, but X2 was kinda good.
Y – Yojimbo
One of my favorite Akira Kurosawa films and the original Fistful of Dollars.
Z – Zombi 2
I already listed a zombie movie with Dawn of the Dead but ‘Z’ is hard, OK?
Yojimbo is awesome, Sanjuro is awesomer. There are quite a few Corman movies that are cool, my fave being Rock ‘n Roll High School.
Yeah, I like Sanjuro more too…but ‘S’ was an easy letter 😉
I love that one too!
Large Marge! ha ha!!!
Scares the shit out of me. Seriously. Even posting that picture kind of made the hairs on my neck stand up.
Nice to see some love for Roger Corman. I get a kick out of his movies, even the bad ones.
He’s a low-tech film pioneer, if nothing else. I don’t think anyone comes close to his resume, even if a lot of it is crap.
I like Queen Latifah. 🙂 Nice picks!
Queen Latifah is pretty cool
For Z you could’ve also gone with Pupi Avati’s Zeder, if you’ve seen it. Don’t get me wrong I adore Fulci and Zombi 2 but, you should really give Zeder a try. It’s so messed up!
I have not seen that one! I’ll look into it
Very nice follow-up. I think your list is the only one that doesn’t include Tarantino as “Q”. Love Queen Latifah, though.
Queen Latifah > Quentin Tarantino
Where’s Tarantino’s musical career, huh?! That’s what I thought 😉
LOL
Excellent part 2 Andy. Loving the Kubrick love, as always. And, yeah, Queen Latifah. Cool.
lol
Nice list. Heard about Wages of Fear for the first time yesterday and seeing it mentioned here again really wants me to check it out now!
Oh, it’s simply amazing. Your heart will be pounding through the entire second half.
N – great pick
O – ” ”
P – haven’t seen it, but knowing it’s Tim Burton’s debut, I’ve been curious
Q – Queen Latifah? She’s dumbed down a LOT lately…
R – lol
S – nice choice
T – haven’t seen it yet….
U – ” ”
V – YES. great movie
W – haven’t seen it….
X – agreed
Y – haven’t seen it, still….
Z – …?
PS: Did you get the most recent interview question? I’ve sent it a few times within the past few days.
Pee Wee is not the Tim Burton we have come to know, but you can definitely see his influence on the style.
You need to see Thin Red Line and Wages of Fear sometime, really wonderful movies.
I always confuse The Thin Red Line with The Thin Blue Line. I think The Line Blue Line was the documentary a movie fan I know personally (there aren’t very many…) recommended me, and TTRL is the war movie…
They are both excellent movies, but yes, Blue is a documentary by Erroll Morris about a man incorrectly charged with murder.
You’re right, Queen Latifah is cool. 🙂
